Today’s Blog Post looks nothing like a typical post. This was originally intended to just be a quick Instagram blurb, but the more I thought on it, the more I wanted to say. I’ve been thinking about sharing this for quite sometime, and since it’s been on my mind so much lately because I’ve been personally struggling with self doubt, I felt now is the time to share. It does not boast beautiful words or images of sweet couples. Today, it’s about being real. Real with you, real with myself. Today, I’m finally putting the words out there that I so often have to recall personally. You’re not the photographer for everyone…and that’s okay. 

Over the years in my business [and personal life if we’re being honest] I’ve battled with comparison. I see others and how they’re running their businesses, the clients they attract, the images they produce and so on, and wonder what I’m doing wrong, why I’m not as good as them or what I need to be doing different. I get sucked into people’s perfectly curated Instagram accounts just like everyone else and find defeat. I remind myself that social media is nothing but the highlight reels and that these people are human too. It took me a while to begin to realize that I couldn’t be the photographer for everyone. I am different from the next person. We all have different personalities and styles and that’s okay. We all tell stories in our own way and people gravitate to this or that. It’s not personal to the business, just personal preference of the client. I’m not going to lie and say it’s easy though. It can be a struggle to meet people and to then watch them walk away, especially when you thought you were a perfect fit.  But remember, that’s okay. I think often times it’s just too easy to wonder what the disconnect is. Why are we finding what we think is our perfect client and then seeing them move onto someone else? Maybe it’s budget, timing, editing style or simply someone’s inability to see your worth. Honestly, we may never know. But with any of that, always remember your worth. You are special as an individual and you have something to say. Remember that success isn’t for the chosen few; it’s for those who choose. What does that success look like for you? Your vision of success is going to be totally different from mine. Let us not dictate our businesses around other people and learn to be true to ourselves. Let us gently and lovingly remind ourselves that we. are. good. enough. Share your voice and what makes you unique. Find a way to be proud of yourself and not compare yourself to others…it really is the thief of all joy.

I know this is a bit of a different read here on the HFP Blog, but these are feelings that I haven’t been able to shake off for a little bit, and thought maybe there was someone else out there that needed to hear that they are good enough today!
